The Witch & Flaming Cauldron
I was interested in making my own silk flames when I found a flaming cauldron available at a local store. After trying it out I was sadly disappointed at the pathetic flame that arose. At that point I began to look for a way to make my flames more realistic. In 2002 I added a simple witch to complete the effect. | | |

After |
I went searching on the Internet when I stumbled across This Page (Site is under Reconstruction) and found exactly what I was looking for. My Pattern Here and found exactly what I was looking for. I copied the patterns he had and traced them onto my silk. I cut them out and taped them onto the plastic grill over the fan in my machine. I turned it on and it was better, but it wasn't quite right. So I changed the lights around when I decided to just stick with one right under the flames. I included some impressive animations showing the difference between before and after...enjoy! Step 2:
What a Witch...she wouldn't be so bad if she didn't play with fire and curse a lot... Simply put, the frame is a post that I attached to a piece of plywood to as a base. From there I made a couple arms out of PVC. The arms are 1 ft long and attached to the chest piece (1 1/2 ft long) with elbow joints. Then I took a milk jug, cut off the spout and jammed it over the top of the post as a filler for the head. I then took another milk jug, cut off the spout and screwed the handle to the post with the rounded end of the jug pointing upwards to give the witch her characteristic hump. After that all that is left to do is attach her mask, hat, and 'graduation gown'. The Complicated Diagram |
