The Possessed Table
An easy Effect to achieve. Basically it is just the 3-D TV idea but in my haunt I decided I wanted a ghost or something to come out of somewhere, so I decided, why not a table. This effect is supposed to look like a regular table, until faces of the dead try to break loose from the underworld through it. | | |
Materials & Tools | Required Materials - Something to make your table out of, preferably wood
- About a sq yard of spandex, I recommend a light color
- Enough Black material to surround your table
- Lathing strips
- Hard Plastic Mask, from local art supply
- Screws
| Optional Materials Tools - Hands
- Drill/Dremel Tool
- Screwdriver

Step 1:
For the spandex to cover the table properly it needs to be built on a separate frame of it's own. To measure how large this frame needs to be, grab a friend (around the neck or another part of your choice) and ask them to give you a hand (or a leg, again your choice) Grab all the corners and stretch the spandex (fairly tight, only allowing the center to drop about an inch), get the measure of each dimension and scribble it down on a piece of paper subtracting an inch from the width and and 1.5 inches from the length. Now, cut the lathing strips to the sizes needed to make a frame for the spandex. (don't assemble the frame yet!!) Lay out the strips and pull the spandex over a lengthwise strip and staple about every 1.5 inches, now do the same with the other long strip, and then the shorter ones. Now those staples are rather ugly, so we want to flip the boards over and knock over all the staple points that stick out over with a hammer.(keeps the spandex from snagging) Now what you want to do is roll all the strips UNDER the spandex, leaving the outside with a nice clean edge. Staple or nail the corners together and you should now have a sturdy frame for the spandex. Step 2:
This is kinda up to you. I made my frame for the table out of particle board(BIG MISTAKE), but all you really need are legs and a frame on top to hold the legs up. Remember, the middle section needs to be empty so you can reach up and play with your spandex. Now run some opaque black material around the table and down to the floor to hide you and whatever else you have under there from peering eyes. Little bit: This table makes a good place for running your special effects. Just take a power strip, or a computer surge protector and you got your own little control area. You can see out and they can't see in, as long as you don't have bright lights under your table. While I was doing this effect I had lots of kids shining their flash lights at the face. This actually helps us with the effect, giving it a spookier look. Also if they flash their lights at it, maybe you should act like it's attracted to the light or something and race it towards them. An excellent idea is to suspend the swinging chandelier over the table so nobody hits it or gets hit. From there you can control the lighting and the swing of it with a good view.
